HUMANITARIAN PROJECTS IN KENYA
Alice for Children has been operating in Kenya since 2006, with the purpose of moving Nairobi’s slums children away from neglect and extreme poverty.
Humanitarian projects in Kenya are addressed to the most vulnerable and affected part of population: the children from Nairobi’s slums, from the Masai community in Rombo, in the shade of Kilimanjaro.
In Africa, particularly in these areas, child mortality is extremely high due to malnutrition, lack of drinking water and AIDS; in our orphanages and schools, we offer support and primary education to about 3,000 children.
PROJECTS
Alice Village
#FAMILY #HEALTH #EDUCATION #FOOD #HOME
Our first orphanage in the suburbs of Nairobi. Today, it hosts 100 children coming from circumstances of extreme poverty and disadvantage. They receive food, water, medical care, school education and a lot of love.
Alice Baby Care
#RIGHT #HEALTH #FOOD
In Korogocho there is our nursery. We take care of 20 children from 0 to 3 years old, whose moms work in Dandora dumpsite. Our children receive all necessary medical treatments and an ongoing social and educational assistance.
Alice for Korogocho
#RIGHT #EDUCATION
Our first school was established in 2007. Today, it is attended by around 1500 children, who attend classes and live among their peers in a happy oasis within Korogocho slums. Here, they receive their lunch and social and medical assistance.
Alice for Dandora
#RIGHT #EDUCATION
We have been supporting and sustaining the primary school of Dandora since 2014. Today, it is attended by 800 children, as a happy oasis in which they can study freely and peacefully, have lunch and receive social and medical assistance which is needed for those who live in the slum of Dandora, at the foot of the dump.
Alice for Health
#RIGHT #HEALTH
The goal is to guarantee the right to health for every child living in the slums of Nairobi and Kenyan rural areas which is beneficiary of Alice for Children’s programs. Today, through the telemedicine program, the presence of a nurse in schools and a ten-year agreement with Neema Hospital, an ongoing medical assistance is guaranteed to all children.
#RIGHT #HOME #TRAINING
Secondary-technical scholarships program to continue the studies after primary school: for our kids in the orphanage, the children reintegrated in their families and for the best students in the schools in which we operate. During school, boys and girls will be welcomed in our hostel Alice Twin House, next to Alice Village.
Alice Italian Food Academy
#RIGHT #TRAINING #WORK
First and only school in Kenya that teaches Italian cuisine, a pass for the world of work. The tourism field is booming in Kenya: through professional training dedicated to cooking, boys and girls enter the world of work with knowledges and capabilities. And they can aspire to fair and dignified employment contracts.
Alice for Limuru
#RIGHT #EDUCATION #FOOD
Limuru is located in the Kenyan tea plantations; here we sustain a small primary school attended by around 100 children, and contribute by paying the teachers’ salaries, in order to guarantee the continuity of the educational project.
Alice for Kilimanjaro
#RIGHT #EDUCATION #FOOD
In the rural district of Rombo, at the foot of Kilimanjaro, there is Nasipa Primary School, which we have been sustaining since 2013 in collaboration with Light of Masaai. Today, it is attended by 600 boys and girls who receive drinking water, food and ongoing education.
SPECIAL CAMPAIGNS
Stand up for slum girls rights
#RIGHTS #WOMEN #EDUCATION
The rights of girls in Nairobi’s slums are violated every day.
Discrimination, Period Poverty, abuse and violence are the daily reality for thousands of girls.
We want to change this and defend their rights.
Fight with us in order to defend the rights of girls in Nairobi’s slum
Sanitary Pads Emergency
#RIGHT #WOMEN #EDUCATION
Period Poverty is the lack of goods of first necessity for women who menstruate: during their period, girls in the slums lock themselves up in their homes for shame and for ignorance of their own body, they miss days of school and are victims of abuses.
With the Pads Campaign, we are able to give our school’s girls free sanitary pads and counseling activity concerning sexual education.
Help us to reinforce the female figure in Kenya: we give them the gift of freedom and self confidence.
Support for Nairobi’s families
#RIGHT #FOOD
Coronavirus had disastrous consequences of the populations of the slums in Nairobi. Months of lockdown and prohibition have caused families already in great distress to have nothing. That is the reason why we activated a network of mutual help to help the families in Korogocho and Dandora slums.
Today, more than ever, they need our help to eat and survive.
